How to Change uTorrent Download Location – Step by Step Guide

As you probably suspected, in order to change download location for any torrent file on uTorrent is not a very complicated process.

Simply follow our steps and you’ll do just fine.

To change the default download location in uTorrent, follow these steps:

Step 1 – Open Torrent Client

First, find and open torrent app on your computer.

You can do this in more than one way, but we recommend simply double clicking on the icon on your desktop.

If there’s any problem with that, you can always find uTorrent app in Control Panel > Programs and Features > uTorrent.

After getting into the uTorrent client, you’ll see a list of completed downloads.

Step 2 – Find ”Options”

After uTorrent has opened, you’ll see a list of choices on the top left corner of the window.

Find ”Options” and click on it.

You can’t really miss this since it’s right there, as shown in the picture above.

Step 3 – Go to Preferences

Now, in the Options window that pops up, you’ll see a lot of different tabs.

Click on the one that says ”Preferences”.

Steps to change uTorrent download location will differ depending on what version of Windows you’re using.

However, finding Preferences is easy as it’s the second thing you’ll see once you click on ”Options”.

Step 4 – Search for Directories

When you click on the Preferences, a new window will appear with the kind of split screen.

Step 5 – Preferences Window will Change

Finding Directories is not that hard, and once you do find it, you should click on it.

The main thing to do here is to find the ”Put new downloads in” and check the box beneath it.

Step 7 – Select the Download Folder Where You Want Your Torrent File to land

After you check the ”Put new downloads in” box, the bar beneath it will become available for changing/use.

Now, you’ll see the bar and three little dots at the end of the bar.

There, click on those three dots and a new window will appear.

This window is actually your computer window asking you to choose where you want to set download location.

Choose the new torrent download location and simply click on ”OK”.

Maybe it’s best to just make a new folder on your desktop and choose that for your torrent downloads.

This way, you can even download bulky files inside.

Step 8 – Click ”OK” and Restart uTorrent app

After you set download location, it’s time to close all windows you used and restart the uTorrent app.

Now, just click on the ”OK” in the Preferences window and you’ll be brought back on the starter page of uTorrent.

Next, restart the app since it might not work if you don’t.

When uTorrent restarts, it will automatically save all the changes you just made and your downloads folder will be working like a charm!

Therefore, all completed downloads will store to a new location you selected.
